Dr. Bai received his Ph.D. degree in Instrument Science and Technology from Chongqing University, Chongqing, in 2013. From August 2011 to December 2012, he was a joint PhD student in Prof. Norman M. Wereley’s Smart Structures Laboratory in University of Maryland, College Park, USA. In 2013, he joined Hefei University of Technology and founded Laboratory for Adaptive Structures and Intelligent Systems (LASIS) in 2016. His research interests are focused in two areas. (i) Design, optimization, dynamics, and control of smart structures systems based on smart materials, including magnetorheological fluids/elastomers and magnetostrictive materials for the advanced automotive systems, and (ii) New mechatronics-based vehicle dynamics and control in emphasis on intelligent/automated vehicles.
Dr. Bai
has published over 60 peer-reviewed international journal articles and over 50
conference articles (refer to 1. Google Scholar and 2. ResearchGate). He is an inventor on about 60 granted Chinese patents and around 20 pending and 3 PCT US patents. He was awarded the ASME SMASIS Conference Best Student
Paper Award in Symposium 4 (2010), the Academic Pioneer of Chongqing University
of the Year 2010 (2011), SAE-China Suspension Conference Best Paper Award (2017), Nonlinear Vibration Conference Excellent Paper Award (2019), Cover Paper of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering (2021), and Gold Award of the 9th Anhui Province Patent (2022).
Dr. Bai’s research has been funded under National Natural Science Foundation of
China, Key and Major Projects from Anhui Province, Chinese Ministry of
Education and also OEMs.
Currently, Dr. Bai serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures and SAE International Journal of Connected and Automated Vehicles. He is also a Technical Committee Member of Active Materials Technology and Integrated Systems and Committee Member of Adaptive Structures and Materials System Branch of Aerospace Division of ASME, and a Technical Committee Member of Youth Division as well as Suspension Division of SAE of China. He is also a member of ASME (S’09, M’12), SAE-China (M’16), IEEE (M'17) and AUTO-E (M’17).
